Childcare Rules
Childcare is a
co-operative. That means if you want your child to take part in any or
all of the programming we offer, you must put in your two hour shift.
This shift also counts as your work detail.
All children are welcome
with the exception of babes in arms -- we simply do not have the
resources to take care of them.
Programming hours are 10
a.m. to 12 p.m. then lunch. 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. You will be required to
sign your children in and out of childcare. You are required to be on
time to pick up your child or children when Children's Programming
closes.
Children should wear a hat
at all times. Sunscreen always. Messy clothes for morning crafts. A
towel and swim suit or other appropriate games wear.
PLEASE, this is a co-op
childcare not a baby-sitting service. Pick up your children on time,
feed them and spend some time with them at one of the many children
friendly spots on the site.
No child under the age of
12 without adult supervision is allowed near any water on the grounds.

Greetings Kids
of Wiccanfest! It's me, Starr, and I await the longest days of summer,
to be back at Wiccanfest, to see my friends from last year again, and to
meet some new friends this year! Now that I've gotten to know some of
you, and how things work (and who has a key to the pool!) I hope we will
have even more fun this year! Here are some of the things I have
planned.
On Thursday
morning we will do some drumming and circle dancing just to get to know
each other again...bring your drums, musical instruments and grown ups,
this is fun for everyone. In the afternoon, we'll go on an adventure
hike and visit our animal friends at the pond, and share some snacks in
the gazebo. We can plan what we will do for the parade, and practice a
song (or some drama) for the Bardic Circle. We will also be going to the
pool whenever we can...that means when it is warm or sunny, at least one
or the other, no more arctic dips thanks!
Friday there
will be another quest, a hunt for clues for all ages, a mystery that
shall lead you on a journey throughout the grounds. I will include a
scavenger hunt of certain plants, herbs and witch's ingredients...so
bring you plant/tree identification books, and come in magical dress if
you want. (Any grown ups reading this who would like to be part of this
game for the kids, please email me.) Last year some great craft supplies
were gathered, so in the afternoon we will be doing large size paintings
on fabric (please wear play clothes that can get marked), and of course
we have to make our flags for the game of Capture the Flag Saturday
morning.
That's right,
Capture the Flag Saturday morning...so bring your flags! In the
afternoon, some games and challenges, then we get ready for the parade
with face painting and decoration making, we're going to make a big
noise this year!
There are lots of other craft/coloring/cut and
paste supplies and fun stuff that I will have set up during the kid's
program hours in the kids cabin (right behind registration), so that
even when we are out and about, young ones can come for an art break.
Some of the best craft ideas come from you kids, (like the quivers made
from potato bags last year) so we'll find what we need to make what we
want! I have lots of other arts and games ideas to share, and would love
to hear yours, so email me if you want at starrmckay@sympatico.ca
See you
soon!
Children of
the Oak Circle Dance
Circle dancing is an ancient form of pagan
dance that is simple to do, and evokes feelings of joy and community.
The beginning of the kids program will be celebrated by learning some
dances, and the chants and drumbeats that go with them, including dances
created to connect with and honor children. Come out with your kids and
all those who are young at heart and share in a special circle of music
and fun around the Great Oak Tree. This dance will be facilitated by
Adrienne Starr and Elizabeth Paddon, two performance artists who
specialize in doing drama, art, and music with children. All drummers
and musicians welcome and appreciated.
